Cookie Tradition

Last year was the first year that I wasn’t at home in Vermont for Christmas. It was bittersweet being away from my parents and siblings and our many Christmas customs–missing them, but eager to share my old traditions in my new home.

To me, baking and decorating cookies is as much a part of December as pine trees and twinkle lights. Every year since I can remember it’s been a part of the holiday routine.  Last night we gathered in the kitchen to ice (and taste) this year’s batch.

We’re planning to bring them to the neighbors on Christmas Eve with some other homemade treats. Do you have any special holiday traditions?

We used this recipe for the cookies and icing.
